FAQ
The midwifery model of care views pregnancy and birth as normal, healthy life events while providing individualized, evidence-informed care every step of the way. Midwives focus on building trusting relationships through longer appointments, education, and shared decision-making so families feel informed and supported throughout pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and women's healthcare. This relationship-based approach allows care to be tailored to your unique needs, values, and goals.
Natural childbirth generally refers to giving birth with minimal medical intervention while allowing labor to progress naturally. Every family's vision for birth is different, and natural birth can include a variety of comfort measures, freedom to move, laboring in water, and personalized support throughout the process. Kim works with you to create a birth experience that aligns with your goals while prioritizing the safety and well-being of both you and your baby.
For healthy individuals with low-risk pregnancies, planned home birth with a qualified Certified Nurse Midwife is a safe option. Throughout your pregnancy, your health and your baby's well-being are carefully monitored to ensure home birth remains an appropriate choice. If circumstances change or additional medical care becomes necessary, Kim works collaboratively with local healthcare providers and hospitals to facilitate a smooth transfer of care when needed.
The Body Ready Method® is a whole-body approach to pregnancy and birth that focuses on movement, balance, and body mechanics to help prepare your body for labor. Rather than relying on stretching alone, it uses evidence-informed techniques to improve comfort during pregnancy, encourage optimal fetal positioning, and support more efficient movement throughout labor and birth.
Whether you're planning a home birth, hospital birth, or birth center birth, Body Ready Method® sessions are available to anyone—not just current midwifery clients. Kim incorporates this approach into her care to help families feel more comfortable during pregnancy, prepare confidently for birth, and support recovery after delivery.
Prenatal appointments at True North Birth & Wellness are typically at least one hour long, giving you plenty of time to ask questions, discuss concerns, and prepare for birth. Visits may occur in your home or Kim’s office, whichever you prefer. Your visits include routine assessments such as maternal vitals, listening to baby’s heartbeat and assessing position and growth.  Lab work and screenings, education about pregnancy and birth, birth planning, and personalized support also take place. The goal is to build a trusting relationship, confirm the health of mother and baby, and help you feel confident and informed throughout your pregnancy.
Yes. Water birth is available for families who choose it and meet the appropriate health criteria. Laboring or giving birth in water can promote relaxation, provide natural comfort measures, and support freedom of movement during labor.
Kim has completed advanced education in water birth through Barbara Harper and Waterbirth International, a globally recognized leader in water birth education for birth professionals. This additional training helps ensure families receive evidence-informed guidance and safe, individualized care when choosing water birth as part of their birth experience.
While most planned home births progress normally, every birth an pregnancy is unique. If concerns arise during pregnancy, labor, or after birth that require additional medical care, Kim will recommend transfer to the hospital. Because your safety and your baby's health are always the highest priority, she works closely with local physicians and hospitals to help ensure a smooth transition of care while continuing to support you throughout the process whenever possible.
Care doesn't end when your baby is born. Postpartum care includes regular follow-up visits for both you and your baby during the first six weeks after birth. These visits focus on your physical recovery, newborn assessments, breastfeeding support, emotional well-being, and answering the many questions that naturally arise as your family adjusts to life with a new baby.
True North Birth & Wellness primarily serves families throughout Northern Colorado and Southeastern Wyoming. However, depending on your location and birth plans, Kim may also be able to work with families outside this area.
For clients who live farther away, prenatal visits can often be arranged to reduce travel, and home births may be possible if you have a planned birth location within approximately 30 minutes of a hospital in Colorado or Wyoming. If you're unsure whether your location is a good fit, please reach out—we're happy to discuss your individual situation and explore your options.
The first step is scheduling a consultation to discuss your health history, pregnancy, and birth goals. This is an opportunity to ask questions, learn more about the midwifery model of care, and determine whether True North Birth & Wellness is the right fit for your family. If you choose to move forward, we'll schedule your prenatal care and begin planning for a healthy, supported pregnancy and birth. To schedule your consultation contact me.
